IOC, UEFA to monitor betting integrity ahead of major events
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) will strengthen collaboration to ensure betting integrity during the Paris 2024 and Euro 2024 competitions, the IOC announced on Friday.
IOC and UEFA held a workshop with betting entities and International Federations (IFs) at the Olympic House in Lausanne, Switzerland, on Thursday, to provide an opportunity for sports organizations and betting entities to learn from each other, and strengthen collaboration.
The Olympic Movement Unit on the Prevention of the Manipulation of Competitions (OM Unit PMC) and UEFA's Anti-Match-Fixing Unit outlined its respective strategies and monitoring systems to detect irregularities and cheating at the workshop. The betting operators also shared how they cooperate with the IOC on suspicious cases.
"The importance of preventing the manipulation of competitions, not only as a means of safeguarding the credibility of competitions, but above all to protect clean athletes, is part of Olympic Agenda 2020+5, the IOC's strategic roadmap," IOC said in its statement.
